Frequently Asked Questions

I have just completed a refill in Colour Gel No 21 and it looks like the nails are two toned. Why?
For refills in Colour Gel you must remember to spot (back) fill in the new growth area, then smooth down the excess over the old Gel then cure, making sure not to leave the colour transparent in any areas. Then apply a second coat of Colour over the entire nail and cure. The two toned effect has been caused by the Colour Gel being applied too thin in the new growth area or not filing off old Gel leaving a build up of colour on free edge on nail.

Fresh set of French overlays over tips – After a few days the Gel is lifting off the free edge of the tip. What could be making this happen?
When applying Gel over tips it is important to remove the shine over the whole tip, even the parts that don’t need blending. If the tip is left unbuffed and is still shiny the gel will lift from these areas as there is a fine layer of oil on the tips.

A couple of days after having refills the Gel is bubbling near the cuticle, why is this happening?
Bubbles appearing along the last refill line are caused by the old Gel lifting. The old Gel has not been removed properly, moisture and air have become trapped under the Gel which have then expanded, creating bubbles. Ensure that you do not over buff the Gel and cause lifting, take your time and prepare the nail correctly.

I have just finished applying the Colour Gel on a full set. When I Sanitize Colour wiped off in some areas. Why?
or Colour Gel to wipe off it means that it has not cured. There can be two reasons for this. Either the application is too thin and there is not enough curing agent or the Client’s positioning of their hand in the UVA lamp is incorrect. If their hand is on an angle, not all the nail will be exposed to the curing light, therefore not curing the Gel in those areas and wiping off.

A nail biter or Client with very short nails has a special occasion in the future and wants to get there nails done. What do you recommend?
Advise your Client to have an overlay approximately 5 weeks prior to the occasion. This way as your Client’s nails are slowly growing she is becoming accustomed to the new length. 5 weeks growth should also give her a good length. First refill should be applied within the first two weeks. If the desired growth has not been reached within this time, tips or sculptures can then be added without removing existing Gel.

I swim 2 – 3 times a week in a chlorine pool, will this damage the Gel?
If the pool is highly chlorinated the Gel may become soft or discoloured as chlorine is a very strong chemical. We suggest you apply an additional coat of Bio Sculpture Top Coat, which will seal and protect your gel. After swimming remember to wash your hands with warm soapy water to remove the chlorine residue.

I have another brand of top coat, why can’t I use it?
We highly recommend you use the Bio Sculpture Top Coat. Our top coat has been specifically formulated to protect the surface of the Gel from absorbing every day substances that can damage and stain the Gel. You will find that another brand of top coat, can cause discolouring or even soften the Gel, this is due to a chemical reaction between the top coat and the Gel.

I have been using another brand nail polish remover to remove my Bio Sculpture Top Coat every second week, the Gel is starting to feel soft and is lifting around the cuticle area. Why is this happening?
The nail polish remover you are using contains chemicals that are damaging to Bio Sculpture Gel. Even if your nail polish remover is Non-Acetone, it still has many different chemicals to the Bio Sculpture Nail Polish Remover, which has been specifically formulated not to damage the Gel or the natural nail. We recommend you use all Bio Sculpture products with your gel as these are compatible and will cause no damage to your gel.

My client had a fresh overlay of Gel applied 3 weeks ago. The Gel has cracks on the surface. Do I need to soak off the Gel and start again?
No you don’t need to soak off and start again. With a fresh set the Gel can be quite flexible. The Top Coat is not as flexible as the Gel and can form small crazy cracks. The client should remove their Top Coat with Bio Sculpture Non-Acetone Nail Polish Remover, wash their hands and then apply a fresh coat of the Bio Sculpture Top Coat. If this occurs at other times, it could be that the Gel application is too thin.

I’m a hairdresser and have worn other nail systems before and found that they always came off. Is there anything that you can recommend for me?
Bio Sculpture Gel, if applied correctly will look and work great on Hairdresser’s nails. The Gel is flexible and very durable in water, which is perfect for Hairdressers. Colour Gel is best suited as the staining from the hair dye, will not show. Usually if there is a problem, it is with plastic tips, the glue tends to breakdown in water. Ensure that you have a refill every 2 weeks, until the tips have grown off and that the tips are not too long. Also silk may be added in the overlay and even at the time of refilling to add extra strength.
